AO PodCast

After 9 nine issues, and a whole quarter of Absolute Opinion, comes another first for us, a pod-cast. I can see the puzzled looks on your faces, “what in the world is that?” Well, being the tech guy that I am, I must admit I did not know what it was when our editor first floated the idea.

Put it simply, a pod cast is a simple audio program that can be listened to right away or downloaded and listened to at a different time on one’s iPod, if you have one, and if you don’t (like me) you can listen to it on your computer. So, as a result, we introduce the first pod-cast from the staff of Absolute Opinion.

What’s it all about? Well, I’m glad you asked.

Basically, it is a review of the new DVD release, Hotel Rwanda. Hotel Rwanda is the story of a man who sacrificed himself and everything he had to save the lives of those who needed his help. It is a heart-touching story about courage, bravery, and self-sacrifice. This movie has it all, from action and suspense, to romance and even a bit of humor; all the makings of a great Hollywood script.

The problem is, it’s not. This is no script; it’s a true story. This is the story about the real life of a man named Paul Rusesabagina, who was a hotel manager in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda during the horrific genocide that took place in the spring of 1994.

In the beginning, Paul thought only of protecting himself and his family, but soon realized that he had a responsibility to help others as well. In the end, he sheltered over 1200 Tutsi refugees inside the hotel and saved their lives from brutal extermination. He risked his own life to save others; much like Oscar Schindler did in the infamous film, Schindler’s list.

If you like movies that are based on true stories and that are powerful enough to pull on your emotions, then you’ll love this movie. If you like movies that make you think a little, this will do it. It is a story worth watching. Normally, I don't make it a practice to endorse movies, but if you are anything like me, and if you like to experience history more than just reading about it, then you'll love this movie as much as I did. And after you watch the movie, check out our pod-cast, or you can just listen in beforehand.
