You Have The Right To Remain Alien

So help me out with this one. I visited this website called, “The Immigrant Solidarity Network.” A few things catch my eye right away. First, is the motto, which is “No human is illegal.” Next thing I saw was a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. at the top of the page. “Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.” Whatever – I will get to the quote later. I believe I have already written about how immigrants need to be grateful for our country. But evidently, they did not read my article – or maybe I was not clear. In any case, I want to restate from another point of view.

Are we being too harsh? Let us first look at what citizenship entails. We have a government of the people. That means that we control this land and in turn we own it. We do not take orders from anyone. If we make a law, then we follow it, regardless of what the international community or the UN thinks. So that is what we did, we made immigration laws. We decided that you could not just enter our country whenever you feel like. We have good reason for this – security, disease, crime, etc. Nearly every country in the world follows the same reasoning. Everyone is welcome to attempt to become a citizen of the United States; they just have to come the right way.

Next, I want to look at the motto of this organization because it is extremely misleading to someone who has no clue about anything. “No human is illegal.” Illegal? Now we are outlawing certain humans. No Mexicans may enter into the US at all. Last time I checked, however, Mexicans were still trying to get their green cards so some must be allowed. Oh, I see, are you talking about Mexicans that cross the border illegally? On the other hand, maybe you are talking about those who abuse the system to send money back to Mexico. How about this for a motto, “No criminal is a citizen.” It is just as right. We do not turn people away that follow our rules. We turn people away (or at least try) when they do not follow our rules. Why? It is our country, period. No human is illegal by nature, but humans can commit illegal acts or follow illegal procedures – and that is very different from outlawing humans for no reason at all.

Now I would like to address the quote from Mr. King Jr. His point was that things that are legal are not necessarily right. At first glance, that seems noble, but there is one major problem. What law or creed says otherwise? For Hitler, almost every civilized person believes that what he did was wrong. Some for religious reasons and some for their own racial reasons, but everyone thinks that some “natural” law supersedes the law of Hitler’s Germany. The only way that genocide was stopped in Germany was war, and that is the only way you can topple an independent state. The UN does not rule over us, the rest of the world does not rule over us, and no foreign (alien or supernatural) directly exerts power over us. So we make our own rules – and we wanted immigration laws. If you do not like it, you will have to fight us for it.

Sure, that is extreme, but let us take a calmer approach to the matter. It is not a matter of legal against illegal for that does not exist on an international level. There does exist international law but it is in name only because there is no force behind it. Therefore, it is really a matter of whether citizenship is a right or a privilege. You only inherit rights through laws or creeds, and since one does not exist that we are subject to, citizenship is a privilege. If citizenship is a privilege, then you have to follow our rules to enter, period.
