Fries With That?

Rice with that?
Condoleezza Rice has been confirmed as our new Secretary of State. This adds a new first in her all ready full resume of firsts – she's the first black women to hold that office. Colin Powell was Secretary of State before Rice. "Colin Powell leaves big shoes to fill at the State Department, but Condi Rice is the right person to fill them," said President Bush. Where's Colin Powell? Spending time with family. Seems to be the “in” thing these days with former white house employees.

But of course, you can't go anywhere without hearing some Democrat whine. In this case there's more than one. A good deal of democratic senators are complaining about President Bush making so many mistakes, creating a quagmire, blah, blah, blah. Since Secretary Rice played a big part in Iraq policy they used her confirmation to voice their 'concern'. Although Rice has been confirmed, Gonzales - Attorney General nominee - still is waiting. He's been blamed with Abu Ghraib.

Who's taking Rice's spot as National Security Adviser? Her deputy adviser, Stephen Hadley. Don't worry about it. I'm sure the Democrats will make sure you're very familiar with his name.

Planned Parenthood Leader Aborted
This week Gloria Feldt, Planned Parenthood's president, resigned with no reasons given. Maybe she wanted to spend more time with her kids. Nevermind.

A few weeks ago Planned Parenthood released their finical records. 34% of their income comes from abortions. It must be hard to “council” people in decisions involving having children or aborting children. Well, must be hard to be unbiased and do that.

Seems they also reached a record level in government grants last year. Doesn't that just send a warm fuzzy feeling all over ya?

Four More Years
George W Bush was inaugurated last Thursday, January 20th, to be the President of the United States for another term. Witnessing the next four years will be interesting as it seems a good deal of people love to tear apart our leader. Even those who live in this great country. Yes, he is not a perfect person, but he is still the person who is leading this country. Leaders of other countries complain, wanting “multilateral” approaches to the problems that face our world today. But no one seems to realize – someone has to lead. And there is a multilateral approach. It's called following - which, by the way, does not entail complaining.

The broadcast news covered the inauguration well. More correctly they covered the protest of the inauguration well. They answered all the questions America was dying to ask: Where are the protesters? Are they having a hard time protesting? What are they protesting? How are they protesting?

Silly liberals, can you be more transparent?

Freedom Isn't Free
Today, January 30th, is election day in Iraq. If you been listening to the legacy media reporting on anything in Iraq all you hear about is death, destruction, money lost, and George Bush as a failure. None of these are true, as evidenced the past few days.

In the past week, three top members of a terrorist network specifically operating in Iraq have been captured. All of them aides to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi – the terrorist leader of this group. So, in this failure to stop terrorism, we have succeeded in stopping terrorists. Interesting.

From Friday, January 28th, through Sunday, January 30th, expatriates of Iraq were allowed to vote in 14 countries. More than 280,000 expatriates registered to vote in this election. It was a thankful and emotional time for these people as many of them fled Saddam's regime after losing many of their loved ones.

That leaves us with today. Thirty-five people have already lost their lives to homicide bombers and missile attacks throughout the country. More will surely lose their lives in the hours and days to come. One thing is for sure though. Those people knew the risks, they knew the danger, and they decided it was worth dying to see their beloved country turned into a free nation. It is a bit like those men who sacrificed their lives over 200 years ago. Unfortunately some of our 'leaders' today don't think that freedom is worth dying for. They think if it's not easy, it's not worth doing. I'm sure George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would have a few words for Ted Kennedy and John Kerry.

The target for a successful turnout in today's election was 50%. The turnout has been reported far over this target.

May Freedom Ring.

Nailed It
When construction worker Patrick Lawler visited his dentist complaining of a nagging toothache, his doctor was surprised to find the source of the man's problem was not his teeth. A dental x-ray revealed a four-inch nail the man had accidentally embedded in his skull.

Lawler said he had been doing construction work at a Colorado mountain ski resort six days earlier, when a nail gun misfired. He saw a nail impact a nearby piece of wood, but did not realize a second nail had shot through his mouth and lodged in his skull. Following the incident Lawler had what he thought was a minor toothache and complained of blurry vision.

When painkillers failed to ease his pain, he visited the dental office where his wife works. The dentist showed Lawler the x-ray with the nail embedded in his skull, and had Lawler taken to a Denver hospital where he underwent surgery. The nail had plunged 1 1/2 inches into Lawler's brain, barely missing his right eye.

Neurosurgeon Sean Markey told a local television station,

"This is the second one we've seen in this hospital where a person was injured by the nail gun and didn't realize the nail had been embedded in their skull."
Although the second his hospital has seen, Markey said it is a rare injury and added that Lawler will recover.
