What If?

There has been a significant movement in the historical realm to change the history of the world and more specifically, the history of our country to make it less abrasive and more acceptable to modern society. This movement consistently alters the reasoning and the purpose behind many of our country’s decisions in the past one hundred years. These decisions have been the ones that have set us apart as a nation who stands for freedom at any costs and is a friend to all who love liberty and human rights.

By changing these decisions, these revisionists have altered our nation’s stand for the right. They have attempted to make the United States’ decisions correct in every situation. In reality, they have only proved their ignorance of the purpose of our nation’s existence.

Our nation was created with the sole purpose of offering freedom of religion to all who were oppressed. This gradually blossomed into a full-fledged system of freedom, which was offered to any who wished to come. Throughout the 1800’s and the early 1900’s, our country consistently fought against oppression and foreign control. As this happened, gradually other nations began to see the validity of our purpose and slowly began to change their ways.

Many people today consider the US an arrogant nation who considers it their job to protect the little people of the world, especially when there are US interests involved. If this were true, I could understand these people’s frustration and anger. Yet to understand this issue totally both sides must understand the other's point of view.

Step back for one moment and consider this question: What would the world be like if the United States of America had never existed? Would there be any free nations on the Earth? Would Hitler, Mussolini, Mao, and Stalin have won and created their communist states? Would the world have been totally annihilated by now? Or in light of more recent events, would people who kill any who oppose them, such as Bin Laden, Hussien and other terrorists, control the world?

I understand that the United States has not acted in the right way or for the right reasons in every situation in our history. The US has had problems just like any other nation. But consider the overall picture. In the 229 years that our country has existed, we have never experienced a hostile government takeover, have never deteriorated into civil war as a result of a change in government, and have an outstanding record in declared military conflict.

Our government was formulated in such a way that the citizens of the country have a way to make their opinions known. On top of this, the leaders must listen to the people because it is from those same people that the leaders’ power is obtained.

So while many complain of America’s actions and others try to change its history to be more “correct”, I stand against the new history because the old history has made our country and our world what it is today.

Let Freedom Ring!!!
